Just a quick update: the good folks in China have finished printing the game! They sent a photo of their color matching results:
Which, as you can see if you squint, is ever so slightly darker than my prototype cards, but I think it looks great. Anyway, the next step is that they'll send me 2 "post-production samples" in the mail, and I'll confirm the deck contains more than just Boots.
We are go for production!

🎉 So I talked to the manufacturer and it turns out they did intentionally print a sample instead of the full set, because setting up 400 unique cards is a lot of work. They probably should have warned me about that, but, at least there's no problem there!
😭BUT. The colors were a little off, because the real manufacturer uses a different printing method than the prototype manufacturer.
🎉BUT! I was able to send them a handful of cards, which they're going to use to color match. They now have the cards and the formal OK to start production. When is that going to actually happen? ... no idea. I'll keep you posted.
I got the physical proof! 🎉 ... it was wrong 😭

Alright, so I had gotten a digital proof awhile back and it all looked good. The next step was to get me a physical proof--that is, a single copy of the game as they were planning to print it. It arrived in the mail today and as I opened it, my excitement quickly turned into confusion.
First, the tab dividers! My prototypes don't have these, so it was exciting to see them for the first time. So much better than the random scraps of paper I've been using.
But then the cards themselves... well... see if you can spot the problem.
So, yeah. Changes requested.
